Reading list: Yotsuba&!

Yotsuba&! is the perfectest comic ever. If you do not think so, your heart has been replaced by a shriveled up turnip.

* EDITED TO ADD: On a related note, there's a new action figure. If you follow the links, I actually think the old one is better. Better yet, there should be a plush. Not that I'd get one, mind you...

Duvall, You've told many people of the powers of young Yotsuba, but I think you need to explain the whole concept of Yotsuba for the sake of those who aren't enlightened.

Yotsuba is a four-year-old who's just moved into town with her single dad as summer is beginning. She encounters makes friends, and encounters the perfectly banal liek air conditioners or cicadas or fireworks with unabandoned wonder and enthusiasm. The titles of each chapter being "Yotsuba & [thing]!"

It's idealized, since she never pokes things with a stick, or teases other kids, or anything untoward. If there is character development, (her neighbors and friends are all likeable) I haven't seen it, and if there's a plot, the foward mometum needs time-lapse photography to capture, but it's sweet and warm, as well as being completely well-crafted. Yotsuba as Flower Cupid isn't just cute, it's a perfect little story (in vol. 3), and I'm smiling just thinking about it.
